Stay informed and be active and involved in our delivery of care.

Speak up and ask your health care team, they can answer questions or concerns you may have. 

Play an active role in planning your care, your baby’s care or the care of your family member. Ask a family member or friend to support you. 

Educate yourself about your diagnosis and ensure you understand your treatment plan. Your health carer can help with this. 

Ask your nurse or midwife for help immediately if you are worried about changes or if you feel that you, your baby or your family member’s condition is worsening. This can include an immediate medical review, if required. 

Know what medication you are taking and why it has been prescribed. 

Use our hospital resources to learn about your health and the health of your baby and what assistance you may need when you go home. 

Participate in decisions that affect you or your family while you are in hospital.
