2017 O&G GP Update

General Practitioners are invited to the following event as part of King Edward Memorial Hospital's ongoing commitment to support General Practitioners in providing antenatal care as well as assessment and management of women with gynaecological problems.

Junior doctors and other doctors working in women's health are also welcome.

Full day attendance qualifies as a Certificate of Women's Health (CWH) workshop for the DRANZCOG.

  • Practical workshop – Implanon (*1.5hr)
  • Practical workshop – obstetric emergencies e.g. shoulder dystocia, PPH (*1.5hr)
  • Practical workshop – Mirena (45min)

  • Case discussions (obstetrics) – antenatal tests (including NIPT), subsequent pregnancy care after previous preterm birth, nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. (45min)

Learning Outcomes

O&G GP Update

On completion of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Explain KEMH services that provide support, advice, assessment and ongoing management for antenatal and gynaecology patients.
  • Assess and investigate women with urinary incontinence and/or prolapse and initiate non-surgical management strategies.
  • Assess and investigate a woman presenting with pelvic pain and refer appropriately.
  • Counsel women about the risks and benefits of hormonal and non-hormonal treatment options for menopause symptoms.
  • Provide shared antenatal care confidently & access clinical advice or review when appropriate.
  • Have increased knowledge of common medical complications in pregnancy.
  • Be aware of specific postpartum follow-up for women with medical complications in pregnancy. Counsel and provide initial management to women who have been exposed to an infection or have developed a rash during their pregnancy.
  • Know which common vaccines can be given safely during pregnancy. Investigate and diagnose common sexually transmitted infections.
  • Initiate treatment and provide appropriate follow-up for common sexually transmitted infections.
