State Perinatal Mental Health Strategy (2007). Where to Find Help. Perth: Department of Health.

This pocket guide is designed to fit into a wallet or purse for easy access. It lists many useful services broken down into sections - including resources for Indigenous peoples, fathers and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.

The DVD was created to help Aboriginal mothers and families understand emotional problems around pregnancy such as depression. The DVD also describes factors that could contribute to problems, and offers ways to find help.

WA Perinatal Mental Health Unit (2008). Boodjarri Business: Maternal Mental Health Resource for Aboriginal Health Workers. Perth: Department of Health.

A training module has been created to accompany the "Boodjarri Business" booklet. This training is designed for Aboriginal Health Workers and other health professionals who work with Aboriginal mothers and families during the perinatal period.

Resources for Working with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Communities



State Perinatal Mental Health Reference Group (2007). You Are Not Alone: Emotional Health for Mothers [DVD]. Perth: Department of Health.

The DVD is available in three versions- Iraqi (Arabic), Ethiopian (Amharic) and Sudanese (Dinka). They provide an overview of the experience of perinatal depression from the perspective of women from each of the communities and include information on symptoms, risk factors, treatment and accessing pathways to care.

The DVDs aim to

  • Raise awareness of perinatal mental health issues amongst women and their families, and
  • Provide opportunity for discussion with mothers and their families
