“We are excited to expand our knowledge and develop our skills in obstetrics and gynaecology at the only tertiary centre in WA. KEMH offers both a diverse population of patients and a variety of presentations including some of the most high risk obstetric patients in WA. We are also lucky to have access to the highest quality teaching and as a result of this, our experience and education at KEMH is world-class.” Diana Ethell, Resident Medical Officer.

King Edward Memorial Hospital has recently welcomed its latest round of Resident Medical Officers or RMOs into the medical team.

The 33 RMOs are qualified medical doctors who have completed their first year internship in a public hospital. Their next phase of training is to gain further clinical experience by working under the supervision of medical professionals.

RMOs spend two to three years working as a resident in different hospital departments, before choosing to branch out into specialist training. They each come with different experiences and areas of interest.

Diana Ethell said her passion is rural and Aboriginal health.

“As someone who has lived and worked rurally, I feel that it is imperative that all women across Australia no matter where they live should have access to high quality health care. I am excited about caring for those women from across WA who have come to KEMH due to complexities in their pregnancies and providing them with the health care all women deserve,” Diana said.

On the other side of the spectrum, Gabriella Wendu said she is passionate about medical education.

“I am particularly interested in the surgical component of Obstetrics and Gynaecology training and the use of simulation to assist with trainees gaining competence and confidence in managing common conditions, and performing common procedures,” Gabriella said.

We wish all of our new RMOs the very best in this next phase of their careers.
