Planning a pregnancy
Fertility Services
The Reproductive Medicine Clinic at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) provides limited, publicly funded assessment and treatment for women and couples experiencing fertility issues.
The Clinic provides investigation, education, counselling, cycle tracking, ovulation induction and surgery to women from around the state, who meet certain inclusion criteria, to assist them to conceive.
The Clinic assesses women with recurrent miscarriages and both women and men who are concerned about the implications of impending cancer treatment on their fertility (these patients can be seen at short notice).
Choosing your pregnancy care
Did you know where you live determines which public hospital you can go to. To view the postcode listings and work out which is your hospital visit the Healthywa website (external site).
This may be a good place to start by finding out which catchment area you live in.
Genetics
Our Genetic Services can offer a range of counselling and support services to adults at risk of or affected by a genetic condition, including prior to and during pregnancy. You may be referred if you or your doctor if:
- there is concern that you may be at risk of a genetic condition
- there is a family history of a genetic disorder
- you and/or your partner are carriers of a recessive condition and would like pre-conception counselling
- there are features suggestive of certain cardiac conditions, joint hypermobility conditions and other conditions that may be associated with a gene fault
We offer a full range of clinical genetic services including counselling, support and education. More information on Genetic Services at WNHS.
