Pathology

The PathWest Laboratory at KEMH offers a Monday to Friday outpatient service and 24 hour daily inpatient service.

The collection centre is located in P Block, on the lower ground floor of the main hospital – with the closest entrance being via Hensman Road.

At King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH), PathWest provide a wide range of pathology services including:

  • anatomical pathology
  • biochemistry
  • haematology (including transfusion medicine)
  • microbiology
  • immunology
  • genomics.

 

Specimen Collection Centre

Outpatient specimen collections are performed for clinic patients, GP and external requests, including:

  • timed dynamic test collection such as glucose tolerance tests
  • short synacthen tests
  • other collections that require patient preparation.

Please note that all timed collections must be booked in advance.

Specimen collection for clinical trial samples are performed as required.

Daily ward rounds for inpatients are performed by the Specimen Collection Centre throughout the year.

 

Perinatal Pathology

The Perinatal Pathology Department at KEMH offers a state-wide non-coronial perinatal post mortem examination service to families in Western Australia who have experienced the loss of a pregnancy. This includes generating mementos, in the form of photographs, handprints and footprints. A cremation service is available for stillborn babies of less than 28 weeks gestation.
