Sexual Health Clinic
A specialist Sexual Health Physician is available to assist women with chronic vulvo-vaginal conditions that are not responding to usual treatments in this weekly clinic.
This clinic provides minor procedures, cervical screening testing and management of refractory candidiasis and chronic vulvo-vaginal conditions. It does not manage acute sexual health issues. The clinic provides diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections for women and men and is scheduled once a week.
Sexual Health clinics are also available at: Royal Perth Hospital (external site), Fremantle Hospital (external site) and at SHQ (external site).
Clinical inclusion
- Chronic vulvo-vaginal conditions or vaginal discharge not responding to usual treatments
- Refractory candidiasis
- Genital warts
- Vulvodynia
- STIs not requiring immediate management.
Clinical exclusion
- Fertility management – refer to a fertility clinic.
- Cervical abnormalities – refer to a colposcopy service.
- Transgender issues – refer to Royal Perth Hospital Sexual Health Clinic (external site).
- Erectile dysfunction – if related to diabetes refer to diabetes service.
- Diagnosis of STI – refer to WA Silver Book Guidelines (external site) for treatment and management, refer to a Sexual Health Clinic as needed.
Frequency of clinic
Once a week.
Referral to include
Pre-requisite tests for all women:
- Cervical Screening Test (CST) (within five years) if aged >25 years.
- Include any other relevant results – vaginal swabs (mc&s) or STI testing.
- Provide treatment history.

Referral process
All referrals from GPs to this clinic are sent to the Central Referral Service WA (CRS) (external site). Ensure you provide the relevant information in the referral to enable appropriate triage, including required investigation results and letters from treating medical practitioners if relevant and request sexual health clinic at WNHS.
Referrals using GP software that include all the relevant history and information are also welcome using CRS referral form templates (external site).
