Continuing professional development at KEMH

The Department of Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research (DNAMER) at KEMH provides midwives and nurses with a selection of courses, study days and professional development programmes. Most of these programs are available to all WA midwives and nurses. Some programs are for internal staff only. Fees apply for external applicants.

How to apply

Please note, for some courses reading material and activities may require access to a learning portal. Registration will require a valid email address. Please include your email address in your MyHR nomination (in the ‘please specify box’) or on the application form.
Internal applicants

If you are a current KEMH staff member, please complete an online nomination via MyHR

If you would like to use ANF professional development leave please use the following process:

  1. Visit MyHR and select the study day you would like to nominate for – note if this is an 8 hr or 4 hr study day.
  2. Complete study day nomination form
  3. If using PDL leaveensure you have sufficient hours available and complete the MyHR leave request form (whole day leave request only, even if ½ day)
  4. Select Prof Dev Leave set
  5. Add details into comments section stating title of study day & length of study day (i.e.full day, half day)

Please Note: the system calculates hours and cannot be overridden, which could be less than a normal 8 hour shift. Unless otherwise specified if this equates to less than your normal shift the remaining hours will be “topped up” with TOIL, ADO or AL,. If you have insufficient hours to “top up” the shift you will be paid for less than contracted hours that fortnight.
Await manager approval for both study day attendance and PDL leave request. (Your manager could approve your study day nomination and not your PDL leave – attendance would be required in your own time outside of your contracted hours)

Application process

1.Complete all the required details on the external application form 
2.Click submit to create a new email message OR click save, attach to an email and send to kemh.dnamer@health.wa.gov.au
3.If a place is available on the course your credit card will be debited the required amount 
4.You will then receive email confirmation of the outcome of your application and a receipt for payment if applicable

Payment details

  • Preferred method: Complete your credit card details on the external application form OR
  • Download application and post with cheque (payable to Department of Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research) and send to: Department of Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research (DNAMER) King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women GPO Box 134 Subiaco WA 6008.

Cancellation policy

  • Cancellation of enrolment will result in a fee being levied
  • 20% will be retained if cancellation within 1 week (7 days) of activity
  • 50% will be retained if cancellation one day prior to activity.

No refund will be given for non-attendance if NO notification of cancellation is given.

Parking 

Staff attending training courses at KEMH will no longer be able to gain access to staff car parks for the duration of their training day/days.

Adjustments to staff car parking access will be made based on formal training participation lists. If last minute changes mean you will be working instead of attending training, you or your supervisor will need to let MAPD know as soon as you become aware by emailing parking@health.wa.gov.au.
