Further Information for patients
Why did I get this letter/text message?
King Edward Memorial Hospital is contacting patients to understand the needs of patients who are currently waiting for an outpatient specialist appointment.
We understand some people may no longer require their specialist appointment and may have forgotten to tell us that they sought care elsewhere.
What do I need to do?
If you still need hospital care, please contact 6457 1944 within 4 weeks of the date of your letter so we can confirm your ongoing need for an appointment. Your position on our waitlist will not change.
If you no longer need an appointment with us, no action is required. Your referral will be closed after 4 weeks, and both you and your GP will be informed in writing.
Will I lose my place on the waiting list for an appointment?
You will keep your place on the waitlist if you still need an appointment and visit your GP and asked them to send an updated referral within 4 weeks of the date on the letter or text message you received.
You will only lose your place on the waitlist if an updated referral is not received within 4 weeks.
Is my doctor aware my referral will be closed?
Yes, we have sent your referring GP a letter.
When will I receive an appointment?
When an appointment becomes available, you will be sent an appointment letter. Waiting times vary depending on the urgency of your condition.
What if my condition gets worse?
If your condition is getting worse, please book an appointment to see your GP to discuss your care. If your condition becomes an emergency, please present to your closest emergency department.
How can I access an interpreter?
You can access an interpreter by calling TIS National on 131 450.
